Montreal’s Young Galaxy are set to end the year with two releases. The band will issue a ‘Deluxe Edition’ of their acclaimed Shapeshifting album on December 13th from iTunes. The new version of Shapeshifting will include four tracks in their original form which will give fans a taste of what the album may have sounded like without the input of producer Dan Lissvik .
Young Galaxy have also been commissioned to complete a number of remixes this year. The band has compiled a number of the tracks they have reworked on Versus. Remixes of songs by Handsome Furs, Junior Boys, Grimes and label-mates Austra are all featured on the eleven-track album which is available as a free download. Finally, the band is also reissuing Shapeshifting on blue marbled vinyl which can be pre-ordered at paperbagrecords .com.
2011 has been a year of change and growth for Young Galaxy. The year started with the band moving to Paper Bag Records and with the release of Shapeshifting which marked a massive shift in the band’s sound. Young Galaxy were applauded for their ability to take risks as they gave control of the finished album to producer Dan Lissvik as he completed the album from his studio in Sweden. Shapeshifting was embraced by critics and fans alike and was included on the long list for the Polaris Music Prize with the band becoming the only act to ever be included on the list in consecutive years. Shapeshifting has also seen the band take a massive step forward by allowing them to tour the world and share the stage with Arcade Fire, Austra and Junior Boys.
