‘Fanzine’ are a London-based indie rock quad that’s setting up to be the sound of next Summer. Their catchy, fuzzy Brit-rock tracks are super-sized with a side-order of Americana grunge that satisfies without bloating, suitable for eating in or taking away.
Jock, Ed, Billy and Kit are school friends from the U.K.’s capital, and are of the age to have been influenced by the best of British bands from the 90s – that of the likes of ‘Blur’ and ‘Oasis’. There’s some of the funk and rough edges about their tracks to date that rekindle the early days of both of these greats, as well as the occasional and sudden thrash reminiscent of one of the best albums from that decade, by ‘Ash’, 1977.
The band – recently signed by Fat Possum records, are set to officially release their first single in the UK on November 22nd, although already have compiled their own 4-track downloadable E.P. via their website, for a fairly reasonable cover-charge of £4 http://fanzine.bandcamp.com. Naturally you can also listen to them on MySpace or Soundcloud.
For those unwilling or unable to pay the fee – theres also a (curiously) free option, via their Facebook. You can download their self-made PDF ‘Fanzine Zine #1’ which, as well as containing typically Fan-ziney drawings, also contains a link to download each E.P. track for nothing! It might be nice to ‘Like’ them, though.
