The Silent Comedy is a San Diego-based group of musicians mixing Americana, Folk and Rock n’ Roll into a sound that is best understood by experiencing their live show. Brothers Joshua and Jeremiah Zimmerman started the band to capture the feeling of the bar culture they worked in and the revival meetings they grew up attending. The outcome is an experience that has been described as “a whiskey tent revival.”

The Silent Comedy took to the road immediately after their first show and have continued to build on that tradition. The brothers’ father was a preacher who sold everything the family owned to travel the world, an experience that shapes the lyrics and DIY ethic of the group. The band is made up of Joshua (bass/vocals) and Jeremiah Zimmerman (keys, vocals, guitar) together with their cousin Chad Lee (drums) and long time friend Justin Buchanan (mandolin/banjo). The band has roots in the craft beer and cocktail scene in California that have added to the rowdy reputation of their live shows. What started as a loyal base of bartenders and beer brewers has grown to a community of dedicated fans all over the world.

Their last album, Common Faults, was self released and sold over 14,000 copies. The band recently worked with Dave Matthews Band’s Boyd Tinsley on an improvisational film/music project entitled “Faces in the Mirror.” This led to The Silent Comedy opening for DMB at The Gorge in Washington state in 2011 and 2012.

Through placement in projects such as Hatfields & McCoys, starring Kevin Costner, and the History Channel’s original series The Men Who Built America (to name a few), The Silent Comedy has been able to reach an even larger audience that is growing with each shot of whiskey.

Catch Dead Stars LIVE in NYC:
5/9: Brooklyn, NY @ 285 Kent
5/16: New York, NY @ Pianos
6/7: Brooklyn, NY @ Grand Victory (CD Release Party)
7/11: Brooklyn, NY @ Music Hall of Williamsburg

Brooklyn trio Dead Stars is a sonic throwback to the ‘90s with a modern twist. Blending elements of rock, pop, and grunge, the band creates a large, resonant sound full of memorable hooks, melodic vocals, and plenty of guitar solos. Having spent the past couple of years winning over fans with their energetic live show, Dead Stars is gearing up to release a new EP via Uninhabitable Mansions, a label founded by fellow Brooklyn band Radical Dads. Entitled High Gain, the EP will be released digitally on June 4th.

High Gain opens with “Waste Away,” a bright, upbeat track with a toe-tapping rhythm and sing-along chorus. The perfect anthem for a sunny day, you can stream “Waste Away” where it premiered with MTV Hive today or download the FREE MP3 HERE, and we encourage you to post & share.

EP track “Fractured” embodies the band’s signature sound with heavy, energetic guitar, driving percussion, and a chorus that explodes with electric energy. “Let It Go” slows things down, setting a nostalgic vibe with fuzzed-out guitars and wistful lyrics. “Staring At The Sun” is a mid-tempo cut with a steady beat and crunchy bass, complete with a buzzing guitar solo.

Those who haven’t yet experienced Dead Stars’ infectious live show will have a handful of chances to catch them over the next couple of months. Be sure to check out the band live, and stay tuned for more news, coming soon!

La Musique Numérique contains an ambitious rendition of Joe Jackson’s 1982 hit “Steppin’ Out”– a version that sees the new wave classic taken deeper into the cosmos. Closing out the album with a bang.

Album opener “Two Times” introduces the record with a tip of the hat to Sleng Teng Riddim’s technological origin: the Casio MT-40 keyboard. What follows is a pulsating sex groove complete with unexpected synth jabs and smooth soulful vocals: a space capsule where Curtis Mayfield and Sly & Robbie play the host. “Automatic” features an irresistible chorus punctuated by a danceable beat, funky filtered bass lines, and an electric sitar intro that will have you immediately hooked, while “In The Aftermath” is a sonically rich ballad with swirling layers of vintage synth instrumentation that set an atmospheric tone, showing a softer side of the album.

It’s no secret that AM & Shawn Lee dig deep into obscure musical wells, gaining approval from other like-minded audiophile obsessives and vintage Sound Library revivalists. However, these influences aren’t simply plugged into a computer program and spit out through modern-day technology: the instruments are played, the vocals are sung, and the songs are written, giving the music a very physical process that has become apparent with the duo’s growing live fan base. Having played alongside Phoenix, AIR, Sigur Ros, and Charlotte Gainsbourg, AM & Shawn Lee will bring their infectious live show on the road this summer. Be sure to catch the band live in your city, and stayed tuned for more from the duo coming soon!

Touché aka Alex Lilly and Bram Inscore are sweeping in with their debut LP It’s Fate set to release May 1, 2013. The dreamy duo will kick off a west coast tour this Spring with several support slots for Twin Shadow. Having already received accolades from XLR8R to ELLE, Touché’s two halves touch upon hallucinogenic and esoteric ideas, aiming to find the place where their psyches overlap. The result is anthemic pop pieces darkened by the desires of the human heart and sharpened by personal politics.

It’s Fate is decorated with syncopated beats, experimental vocals and unexpected arpeggios – reverbed and distorted, yet smooth and warm. Intergalactic keys play over dark filtered bass sounds on the smooth moody track “Big Fan”. “Men Change” is a warm, karmic, deliriously catchy dark dance number that touches upon mortality and sexuality. Synths and vocals blend seamlessly in “Bad Dreams”, a funky ballad laced with brassy horns, while “Shhh! It’s Quiet Time” takes the iconic disco-era to new levels with explosive rhythm slicing through like karate chops of pop.

Darwin Deez has premiered the Is Tropical remix of his new single “You Can’t Be My Girl” on URB today.

Like Deez himself, Kitsune’s Is Tropical are known for blurring the boundaries between band and beat culture. Here they mix slo-mo house, classic Shep Pettibone style vocal-pitching techniques and a few mad keyboards with an emphasis on adding a quirky ‘hands in the air’ euphoric quality to Darwin’s anthemic song. It’s like an itch that you happily want to scratch and jump about to.

The remix follows on from the charming Keith Schofield-directed video, now viewed over 600k times across YouTube and Vimeo, which utilizes soulless corporate stock footage to tell an engaging, story of unrequited love.

On February 12th 2013, Darwin Deez released “Songs For Imaginative People”, his follow up to the successful eponymous debut. He is currently on tour in the US, remaining shows listed below.

North American Tour Dates

We all know the type: Prolific bands who commit every loose thought, stray idea and 90-second song fragment to tape. Bands who pay no attention to little inconveniences like “release cycles” or “self-editing,” and instead decide that quantity equals quality, creating a discography more labyrinthine, imposing and – ultimately – exhausting than the cast of creatures in a sci-fi novel.

Here is why none of that applies to Thee Oh Sees. Because each of the dozen-plus albums they’ve released since 2004 are possess a distinct personality and represents a different point along the path of John Dwyer’s slow transformation from auteur of woozy bare-bones four-track psychedelia to goggle-eyed garage rock marauder backed at long last by a band that both shares and stokes his singular vision. Because drop a needle on any record and – to their great credit – it takes several songs before you’re convinced it’s Thee Oh Sees. The seasick hundred-bottles-of-rum shanty “What the Driven Drink,” from 2007′s delirious Sucks Blood exists in a different galaxy than the rollercoastering “Chem-Farmer” from last year’s Carrion Crawler/The Dream; the doomy doo-wop of “Blood on the Deck” hardly seems like the product of the same band who delivered the yelping “Ruby Go Home” in 2009. And the band who made last year’s engrossing Putrifiers II seems like a distant cousin to the band delivering Floating Coffin — arguably the most varied and textured Oh Sees record to date.

“These songs occur in the mindset of a world that’s perpetually war-ridden,” Dwyer explains. “Overall, it’s pretty dark, and much heavier than our other albums.” You can hear that sense of foreboding in “Toe Cutter – Thumb Buster,” which churns and sloshes like an ocean of ink, Dwyer’s ghostly falsetto an eerie contrast with the song’s sub-basement groove. “That one’s a song about war,” Dwyer explains, “It’s like people take less notice of those horrors anymore. Dark goings-on are so ever present that they can just wash over you every day.”

Chalk some of the band’s cunning chameleonic ability to Dwyer’s 20-year resume. The driving force behind such beloved and sonically disparate bands as Coachwhips and Pink and Brown, Dwyer’s increased fidelity to Thee Oh Sees and only Thee Oh Sees is evidence of a newfound sense of purpose and focus. Where once Dwyer used to funnel his divergent artistic ideas through a host of different channels, lately he’s been finding ways to make all of those impulses function within the framework of Thee Oh Sees — who have in turn grown closer and tighter and sharper with each eye-popping, jaw-dropping live show. As Dwyer puts it: “The family that plays together stays together.”

That sense of unity is palpable throughout Floating Coffin. “Strawberries 1 + 2″ is a blinding flash of sound, the band first locking tight into a frenetic, palpitating rhythm then downshifting suddenly into a loose, hypnotic drone. “I could have made the second half of this song last for hours,” Dwyer says. “This is another song that’s wary of the outside world, about humans staring down technology.” “Tunnel Time” opens with a short-circuiting synth sound before diving into haywire blast-furnace punk rock made more manic by Dwyer’s split-second hollers and howls. The skeleton waltz of “Minotaur,” which opens with Dwyer sighing, “Oil slick in my dinner,” gradually gives way to a distinct sense of optimism. “That one’s relatively less ominous,” Dwyer explains. “It’s about dream-hunting – being the person you feel you were meant to be.” That sense of release is summed up in a single lyric, which shows up just after a squad of swooping strings provides an impromptu serenade: “Stay home today – go to the beach instead.”

It’s moments like those that underscore just how unique this band is – each new layer of their persona that’s revealed only hints at the thousands that still remain. Floating Coffin is the next chapter in the story of Thee Oh Sees, the one where they fix their fury against the onrushing night. It’s another blistering demonstration of Thee Oh Sees greatest trick: they’re the only prolific band who doesn’t put out records often enough.

Two years after releasing their debut album, Mega Rama, Radical Dads have emerged from Brooklyn’s sludgy Gowanus Canal to announce their second effort, Rapid Reality, due out Today on Uninhabitable Mansions.

To preview the forthcoming record, the three-piece have let loose “Mountain Town”, a ferocious new track that seems born out of a musty garage, while also hinting at ’90s-style indie rock and even a bit of biting punk. Maybe it’s the grimy Superfund canal that’s given them the fearless sound, or maybe they just straight-up play like they DGAF — either way, the song’s razor-edged guitars seem to screech and relentlessly rip through speakers like a pair of rusty, serrated scissors.

Pony Boy is Marchelle Bradanini, a sultry songwriter with seductive vocals who isn’t afraid to explore her dark side. With twangy guitars and smoky melodies, her music calls to mind the desolate landscapes of the old west, littered with danger and mystery. Having won over audiences and critics alike last year with her single “Not In This Town,” Pony Boy returns with a new single, “Greatest Unknown.”

Like Pony Boy’s previous releases, “Greatest Unknown” is simultaneously beautiful and eerie, sounding as though it belongs on a Twin Peaks soundtrack. While booming percussion keeps a steady pace beneath buzzing electric guitar lines, Bradanini’s voice twists and turns, alternating between a croon and a whisper. You can download “Greatest Unknown” as a FREE MP3 where it premiered with NYLON today or HERE, and we encourage you to post & share.

Having performed alongside Saddle Creek band The Mynabirds and at last year’s New Yorker Festival, Pony Boy has a string of live dates lined up for March and April, supporting Melbourne’s Clairy Browne & The Bangin’ Rackettes. Playing with a rotating cast of talented instrumentalists, she’ll be joined by drummer Michael Iveson (Gotye), guitarist David Steele (John Prine, Steve Earle), and bassist Jonathan Price (The Henry Clay People.)

Stay tuned for more from Pony Boy coming soon, including a video for her new single!

Photo Ops, the dream-pop project from Terry Price, is pleased to release How To Say Goodbye LP. In honor of the release, the entire record is streaming for your listening pleasure. The album as a whole shows Price’s knack for an infectious hook coupled with poignant lyrics, all framed by the lush arrangements and melodies. Each track tells its own story, whether melancholic or cheerful, Price is utterly earnest in his approach to songwriting. The album is available for purchase on iTunes here.

Stream the album here courtesy of Spinner

As previously announced, you can watch the video for “It Makes Me Cry” here and download the track “Someplace” here.

Photo Ops is the stunning, contemplative dream pop project of Terry Price, whose new album, How To Say Goodbye, draws on the tragedy and triumph of his recent past. The 30-year-old Nashville singer-songwriter, formerly of esteemed indie act Oblio, has had a traumatizing few years, including the death of his father and the sudden onset of a disfiguring medical condition.

“I wanted to have a stylized, melodic, easy-to-understand album about sadness and pain and strangeness, and somehow find some catharsis,” he says. Indeed the concise and beautiful work — which draws on influences from Phil Spector, Paul Simon, Neil Young and Fleetwood Mac to dream pop acts of The Radio Dept. and Starflyer 59– is his attempt to move forward in his life and give comfort to others.

Price played nearly all of the instruments on the record, including acoustic and electric guitar, the Roland Juno-60 analog synthesizer, organ, piano, and bass. He co-produced it with Patrick Damphier of Saddle Creek act The Mynabirds, at the latter’s studio. Featuring driving, mesmerizing melodies – immediately appealing but substantial – the album is led off by “All the World Is,” which unveils the full-length’s autobiographical undertones: “It’s hard to recover from a bad year/ Friends that were with us, are no longer near.” Later, on “Someplace” he sings: “All this memory has gone out the window/ Like how to be a person in general/ Age is more than a number/ When you’re as old as you feel.”

The goal was to “sonically fuse” three albums, Paul Simon’s eponymous 1972 album, Dion’s Born to Be With You (produced by Phil Spector) and The Radio Dept.’s Clinging to a Scheme. “I wanted to combine chillwave with a more straightforward, honest approach,” he says. “The album title How To Say Goodbye may seem clichéd,” he goes on, “but I didn’t want there to be a question of what I was singing about: How to say goodbye to youth, friendships, innocence, thinking you understand the world, all that in general.”

How To Say Goodbye Tracklist:

01. All The World Is

02. It Makes Me Cry

03. Chameleons

04. Wanna Feel Good

05. Someplace

06. You Said You Were

07. February Ocean Breeze

08. Go To Sleep

09. A Hundred Miles Away

10. Sail Across My Eyes

Tour Dates:

03/05 – Nashville, TN @ The 5 Spot – Record Release Show

Dead Leaf Echo. The words are rich literature. Nabokov. Conjured images of drugged passions fading into nihilistic apprehension. An Art Project blossomed in 2006, DLE has matured rapidly since it’s birth now unveiling their unique style of Nouveau Wave.

DLE has released numerous EP’s, Singles and Remixes in addition to their noir film videos and heavy tour schedule prompting Time Out NY to call them “Some of the best live music in the city”. They toured the US last fall and played SXSW on bills with The Wedding Present, Japanther, A Place to Bury Strangers and Trail Of the Dead. In 2010 they played sold out shows opening for the reunited Chapterhouse and Ulrich Schnauss.

Dead Leaf Echo’s previous work with Ulrich Schnauss on their Pale Fire EP has now caught the attention of famed 4AD producer John Fryer (Cocteau Twins, This Mortal Coil) who has mixed their debut LP “Thought and Language” to be released early this year. A concept album that follows the conception and birth of a child and his discovery of thought and language.

By incorporating elements of ambient, baroque, dream-pop, shoegaze, new wave, and goth, and crafting every aspect of their sound and vision, they remain one of the few left willing to work on high-art as concept. Chiming guitars in twin stereo reverbs with shimmering vocals and silky basslines. Dead Leaf Echo runs the gamut of what is now possible within the contemporary underground by running at the forefront of the indie NYC music scene.

Isaac Delusion, a Parisian group with a pop-laced electronic sound are set to release a stunning new EP tomorrow on Cracki Records, Early Morning. The whole EP can be heard now on Noisey, who write the band “perfectly defines the contours of airy indie-electro, elevating it to something far more nuanced and deeply therapeutic…it easily gets our vote for best thing I heard this week.”

Daytrotter describes a gorgeous recent session with them: “An Isaac Delusion song wastes no time sinking itself into your skin…You’re taken away to a place that looks and feels nothing like what you’re used to seeing or feeling. It’s something of a full transformation into this place that’s pulsating.”

Check out their new video for “Supernova,” a whimsical clip bursting with color. The band will be playing a few select shows in New York, Los Angeles and more before heading to Austin for this year’s SXSW, with a full schedule to follow. As a special early release day present and to celebrate the band being back in the US, both EPs are available for download below for your listening pleasure. Sit back and enjoy the tunes!

Isaac Delusion are two Paris-based multidisciplinary artists who are continually exploring new musical landscapes. From deep to high pitches, Loic’s distinctive voice allows him to find the right tone and create his own identity with every breath.

Loic’s imagination makes him a mysterious character. His trips to Iceland and his love for American pop folk led him to compose with his friend Jules.

The duo’s Midnight Sun EP was released on the esteemed French taste-maker label Cracki Records in early 2012. The EP is full of honest and simple pop songs, including the instant favorite, “Midnight Sun.” Chris Douridas from KCRW best describes the tracks as “a burst of sweetly-sung pop propelled by catchy beats.”

Early Morning, the duo’s second EP also on Cracki Records, mixes pop, electronic, hip hop loops, folk and a funk bass, all with an unbearable lightness. It’s a step forward for the band and shows an ongoing musical evolution. All this has been amplifying lately, from shows in New York for the CMJ Festival to Berlin, Barcelona and Warsaw, with a set at the 2012 Pitchfork Music Festival in Paris.

Just like a dream disappears when trying to catch one, Isaac Delusion’s music is elusive. The first release was about sun at midnight, the second is about dawn. The band is currently working on a full-length album for release in 2013, keeping us all awake.

Creating novelty—“something new, not previously experienced, unusual, or unfamiliar”—is nothing new for Faith Harding, aka Novelty Daughter, an integral member of the Stereocure family since day one. Her new self-produced single “American Dreams” arrives as new direction in her multi-faceted musical career, which has included formal piano training, folk songwriting, and singing in many different contexts from jazz and a capella to recent forays into modern pop experiments (e.g. Kuh-Lida’s “So Sweet”). Faith’s debut recording as a self-producing artist is simple and melodic yet filled with enfolded subtleties, reflective and personal while making a plea to the listener’s understanding. Twirling with an intimate jazz vocal style through a beautifully synthesized electronic backdrop, she considers what it means to encounter the mundanity of an approaching real life: “Everybody asks where my money’s supposed to go / I say I don’t know and fall asleep right on the floor / This was not the way that life was supposed to go.” The swaying curvature of the sound and words together is like a long, heaving sigh; not an especially painful one, but more like the deep breath you take before filling out tax forms or mopping the kitchen floor that gives you a little melancholy moment of self—a brief, private inhalation of meaning and assurance that you’re still there. Pendulating synth lines mingle with the low, pumping bass and crisp percussion, undulating like a slow respiration over and under the surface of the lyrics and repeating chord changes. We invite you to experience something unfamiliar in this music, the first of many new things to come from Novelty Daughter.

Tune In this morning or record for later.
Les Fradkin (born 15th, January, 1951 in New York City, New York) is a successful songwriter/composer from the 1970′s, lead guitarist, and one of the original members of the hit Broadway show “Beatlemania”. He was a Guitar Synthesizer pioneer of the 1980′s, a neoclassical guitar trendsetter in the 1990′s and is now a 21st Century innovator as a virtuoso MIDI Guitarist with the Starr Labs Ztar. A classically trained musician as well as being a rock guitarist, he has found success as a recording artist, composer and producer with MGM Sunflower, ESP-Disk, Bell, Arista, RCA, and Laurie Records. Les has written the well known hit “La Chansons Des Souvenirs” (“Song Of A Thousand Voices”) for the famous French songstress Mireille Mathieu on the Philips label and this tune has also been recorded in a Spanish hit version on RCA Victor (now Sony/BMG) by the Latin Pop icon Roberto Jordan (“Donde”).

He has played Mellotron, 12 and 6-string Guitar, Bass and Piano on dozens of Top 40 hit records throughout the early 1970′s , and 1980′s, scoring many US and UK chart placings throughout his career. He has been a member of the seminal folk rock group The Godz, a founding member of folk rock group Thornton, Fradkin & Unger and a founding member of the Pop rock group “California” which scored a chart hit in 1981 with “Summer Fun Medley” which led to a special appearance on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand. He has performed as a member of the Pop rock group Edison Lighthouse, performed and recorded with John Lennon’s protege- Rock Protest Artist David Peel and The Lower East Side and has opened shows for such Artists as diverse as Roger McGuinn, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Livingston Taylor, Sonny Geraci and The Outsiders, Ron Dante and The Archies, The Box Tops, Gary Pucket, The Turtles (Flo & Eddie), The Spiral Staircase and John Lee Hooker. He has also produced recordings for numerous other Artists including The Left Banke, The Drifters, Earl Lewis, Mara Lynn Brown, Venus In Bluejeans, Amber Gomez, and Napoleon’s Ghost and executive produced the 4 Volume 41 Artist compilation: “Timeless Flyte – A Tribute To The Byrds”.

In 1976, Les was selected over thousands of other auditioning guitarists to appear in the original cast of the smash hit Broadway musical “Beatlemania” playing lead guitar and the part of “George Harrison” in New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago along side Paul McCartney lookalike and sound alike Mitch Weissman. Running for two and a half years from May 1977 thru October 1979, every show (including over 1000 in New York alone) was sold out and the Beatlemania musicians quickly became celebrities with magazine cover stories (“Newsweek”,”Time”, “People”, “Rolling Stone”) and many major television show appearances. With his guitar-playing in the international spotlight from the show, Fradkin developed a cult following that has avidly followed his career and made him a celebrity among guitar fans.

In 1978, Arista Records released the Original Cast Album “Beatlemania-Live At The Winter Garden”, which scored a placing on Billboard’s Top 100 and featured the original cast members, including Les on Lead guitar.
In the 1980′s, he pioneered the introduction of tapeless MIDI recording and MIDI Guitar, scoring many national jingles and TV film music with Score Productions, ABC-TV and NBC-TV, including a 4 year stint composing and programming for the Soap Opera “One Life To Live”. He continues to be one of the foremost virtuosos of MIDI Guitar in the world today.

Since 2000, he has enjoyed chart success on the Internet as well, with several of his songs reaching mp3.com’s 1 position 16 times! New Gandy Dancer Rock Magazine named Les’ CD “A Day At The Beach” it’s 2004 Album Of The Year. Les was honored with a chapter in the book “Mp3 for Dummies” by Andy Rathbone, as well as a chapter in the book “Bubblegum Music-The Naked Truth” by Kim Cooper and David Smay”. Les has also received extensive coverage in various books related to The Beatles such as “All Together Now”, “The Beatles Encyclopedia” and “Linda McCartney-A Portrait” by Danny Fields.

In 2004, Les performed with The Ventures as 2nd Lead Guitarist. Nokie Edwards of The Ventures has performed with Les on several occasions and is a featured guest on his “While My Guitar Only Plays” CD. Les has scored the Motion Picture soundtrack for several Motion Pictures, including “Accidental Icon: The Real Gidget Story”. Les has been featured in issues of 20th Century Guitar Magazine, Pipeline, Keyboard and New Gandy Dancer Magazines. Over the last decade, Les has released 20 solo CD’s on his RRO Entertainment Indie label bringing him several substantial hits on Apple iTunes and other download sites across the Internet, including his acclaimed CD’s “While My Guitar Only Plays” and “Pepper Front To Back”, both incorporating Instrumental covers of various Beatles hit compositions.

Since 2007, Les has incorporated the Starr Labs Ztar, a very advanced and High Tech MIDI Guitar, into his arsenal of instruments, and Les’ unique approach with this new technology has seen release with “Guitar Revolution” and “Ticket To A Remix Universe” (Beatles covers), “One Link Between Them” featuring his acclaimed Instrumental composition, “Lift Off” and, most auspiciously, has yielded a Chart Classical/Progressive rock placing for his CD “Baroque Rocks!” , featuring “Canon In D”, which placed #13 in the Amazon Classical Charts and #9 in the Japanese Progressive rock Amazon Charts in 2009.
He has lived in Colorado since 2000 with his wife Loretta and continues to actively perform and record.

“Two words come to mind after a listen to Les Fradkin’s music: Original Genius. One of the most original pieces or music that I have heard in a really long time. ” Metal Mark, Target Magazine

“Fradkin’s expertise on the Starr Labs Ztar Midi Guitar, is simply brilliant with an added dash of amazing. I would consider this one of the best classical homages done by a rocker.” Lee Gaskins, Prog Rock Homestead

“I first learned of you from the Steve Vai song “Liberty” which I thought you did a fantastic job with. But Orbiter ROCKS!
